Who we are Steam Republic is a company with roots in music business and a future in digital fan-oriented marketing in the world of entertainment. We are experts in fan interaction and social networking, aiming to create, strengthen, and measure the relationships between the fan and the star.

We produce software, but we are not technology-driven, we are vision-driven. As our raw material, we do not use code, we use ideas. We are distinguished from traditional software producers by our own distinct vision. We view software as a machine, and run Steam Republic with the hands-on approach of a machine shop led by a mad scientist. We want software to have a certain feel to it, to have some character, roughness, and practicability not found elsewhere in the software industry. In short, we want our software to have some soul.
What we do Our current export is the award-winning Mobile Backstage direct-to-fan service that was commercially launched in July 2010. Mobile Backstage provides next level fan engagement by seamlessly connecting artists and fans by uniting artists' mobile, Facebook and Internet fan communities, combining the best features of mobile, social media and web 2.0.

Through an artist's Mobile Backstage iPhone and Facebook apps, artists and fans can exchange news, pictures, videos, audio and text. Fans can send messages to other fans, invite their Facebook friends to join, find and check into gigs, play music, buy music from iTunes and purchase tickets through Songkick. The app also utilizes a customized Google map so fans can not only follow an artist's movements on the road, but also see the location of other fans and their online posts. These activities build strong and viral communities: a dedicated platform for artists to communicate with their fans, build relationships and generate revenues.
History Steam Republic was founded by two music business emigrants, Paavo Bäckman and Jussi Ruusila. Having gained experience from conquering new territories with a grassroots record company Merceedees, and later operating a full house of artists at Backstage Alliance, Bäckman and Ruusila wanted to move on to using their expertise in fan-oriented marketing in a new environment. They discovered new land, settled it, and named it Steam Republic - a software company with roots in the music business and a future in fan-oriented marketing of the digital age.

Though it has grown out of the music industry, Steam Republic has no intention of limiting its boundaries to the realm of music. Other industries such as film and sports await us, as fan-oriented solutions are becoming a more and more integral part of the social media of the digital age.
Diplomacy Steam Republic is a sovereign state that follows its own distinct vision. However, we come in peace and rely on diplomacy and international coalitions in our operations. We always welcome brave new ideas and collaboration, and wish to build networks and connections with other actors in our industry around the world.

In addition to forming partnerships with interesting organizations, we also often supplement the expertise of our talented individuals by outsourcing some of our activities. This happens especially with the technical solutions for our software products, where a substantial part of the work is carried out by subcontractors.

Constitution
§1 Be Bold
Bold is Steam Republic's middle name. We are curious to see the opportunities behind new challenges, and the rewards behind risks. In fact, we are fuelled by challenges, not because they are easy but because they are difficult. We are not afraid to make bold statements; they are the precedents of success.
§2 Generate Steam
Steam is our driving force. We are pushed forward by a positive pressure that makes us take risks - and achieve extraordinary results. The positive pressure produces Steam Republic's number one natural resource, energy. We prefer to operate on the edge, and believe that trial and error is far more productive than routine. Our energy level is constantly in the red zone, and sometimes we deliberately allow our engines to overheat in order to push our own limits.
§3 Promote Tolerance
Steam Republic is a meritocracy, where ideas and initiatives are judged on the basis of their talent and potential, and not on the basis of the person presenting them. In Steam Republic, freedom of speech prevails. We believe in pluralism and strive to avoid unnecessary borderlines. We are eager to cooperate and learn more about everything not invented here. We also tolerate uncertainty and conflict situations: we address problems even if we do not yet have solutions at hand.
§4 Foster Vitality
Steam Republic exuberates energy, and radiates fire and life both inwards and outwards. We want everyone in Steam Republic to thrive, and that is why we invest in an open and positive working environment. All citizens and allies of Steam Republic exist and work for a reason, which motivates them to flourish and grow on all levels: organizationally, financially, and also professionally and personally. Well-being is a source of vitality, keeping the steam engines of Steam Republic running.
§5 Enable Adhocracy
In Steam Republic, you can see as far as the eye can see. The landscape is characterized by low buildings. Ivory towers are nowhere to be found - the world is flat and the sky is high. Adhocracy in Steam Republic means that everything is Mobilis in mobili, 'changing with the changes': we are not tied to predefined procedures or practices, but instead modify our approach according to every new situation and purpose, ad hoc. In order for this to work, the organization is built on trust in each other's skills and judgment. Rather than formulating rules, we share a sense of responsibility for ourselves, our actions, and our allies.
§6 Pursue Progress
With our energy levels constantly on the red zone, we are taking huge leaps forward, sometimes some jumps sideways or backwards, but in the end, always forward. We tolerate experimenting, and challenge ourselves time after time. Why? Because we want to learn and develop. We want progress. We aim high, so we are bound to reach high. "Insanity is repeating the same action over and over again and expecting different results." We agree with Einstein, and choose to vary our approaches and learn from our experiences. This is how we reach the goals we have set for ourselves.
